Welcome to My Participant Page
Hello friends and family!
As you all know, my dad, Norman Mitchell, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's back in 2001. In January 2016, exactly two years ago, he was admitted to The Village at Smith Creek Care Facility. The facility is really great, and Mum is so happy with the quality of care he receives. She visits him many times a week with the dog, and is always greeted by friendly staff. The food is really good there, too, which is a huge plus!
Although it took Dad a while to settle in and get used to the idea that this was now his home, he is now at a point where he is comfortable and accepting of where he is. We have noticed quite a decline in his speech patterns, and I'm very aware that he no longer recognizes me, Shawn, Tom or Jenn. Most days I think he knows Mum, but those days are hit and miss. Out of all of us, he seems to recognize Lara, the dog, more than anyone. :)
I am participating in the Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer's and raising money in support of the estimated 70,000 British Columbians living with dementia.
By walking, I will honour people who have passed and will acknowledge the work that must be done to ensure help and hope for the people living with the disease today.
I am inspired by the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s ultimate vision of a world without dementia. This vision begins with a world where people living with the disease are welcomed, acknowledged and included.
Before there is a cure there is care.
The funds I raise will ensure the Society can continue to provide vital support, education and information to people living with dementia and their families. They will also enable research into the causes of and cures for dementia.
Please help me to make a difference by giving whatever you can.
Thank you in advance for your kind and generous support, it means the world to me! Together, we make memories matter.
