Walk for Alzheimer's - Halifax 2018

Katherine's Angels

Hello, Friends and Family!

This year once again, I will be participating in The Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia "Walk For Alzheimer's," to support the estimated 17,000 + Nova Scotians living with Dementia. In proud memory of my dearest grandmother, Katherine Maclean. Who made her final journey home, December 22nd of 2016.

As many may know, we very tragically lost my grandmother in the Winter of 2016 on December 22nd. She battled with Alzheimers for many years. For years we watched her memory slowly slip away, taking her freedom and independence. Each year slipping farther and farther away, with no cure in sight.

Nanny, not being one to get out of bed once Grampy had turned off the lights for the night, some how managed to get out of bed and go to the front door. With just a housecoat and 1 boot and grampy's slipper, she wandered off in to the darkness of the night. Someone was calling her home. After a brief search in the bitter cold the following morning, our tracks were stopped 2.5km from home when a search and rescues drone found nanny, laying lifeless, over an embankment of snow - curled up like she had just fallen to sleep.. She had made her final journey home. She was comfortable and warm, in the loving arms of our heavenly father, and with the ones she loved dearest.

Alzheimer's may have been the disease that has taken her physically from us, but our memories with her will always be with us. Nanny was a caring, compassionate, incredibly generous and an inspiration to be a better person. She took great pleasure in the simple things of life, stopping to point out the rainbow after the rain, the first robin of spring and a four leaf clover which she was expert at spotting. Gardening was one of her passions and she loved nurturing plants to life, enjoying the beautiful flowers and plants that she loved to grow in gorgeous splashes of color throughout the spring into fall. Katherine had a gift with yarn and her family enjoyed many pairs of socks, mittens, and sweaters made by her loving hands. She enjoyed a good card game especially with friends and family, but never on a Sunday! Family meant everything to her and she was deeply devoted to her faith, living her life as an amazing teacher, mentor, guide and confidante to us all.
Christmas was her favorite time of year and she went over the top baking goodies and amazing food, all made extra special sharing it with many family and friends. She made the holiday season come alive for all of us. Her light will shine on forever in our hearts and we take comfort in the knowledge that she is free.

Please make a donation today and help us reach our fundraising goal!

By supporting my team, you are helping the Alzheimer Society to continue its important work towards a world without Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.

Thank you again for your kind and generous support.

Lots of Love
