PEI IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimers

Important message about IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s

As we collectively learn how to deal with the challenges of coronavirus (COVID-19), one thing holds true the Alzheimer Society remains committed to supporting Canadians living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and the family members who care for them. And we are taking every precaution to protect their health and safety.

This year, there is an opportunity to connect our communities in new and creative ways as we continue with our most important fundraising event of the year, the 2020 IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s. While some Walks may be postponed until later in the year, many are proceeding as scheduled but in new ways that are safe and in compliance with public health guidelines.

Introducing WALK ONLINE! And Walk-in-Place!

We are excited about taking our Walks online or virtually or Walk-in-Place so we can continue to offer the vital programs and services that are needed for people living with dementia in our communities. We are challenging our walkers to be as creative as possible and have fun!

To get inspired by how others are WALKING ONLINE, or share your ideas and story, please check for updates and stay tuned to your local Societies for updates.

Here are some ideas to create your own WALK ONLINE:

  • Follow your Fitbit, smartphone, or smartwatch step tracker. Log your steps and challenge friends to match your mark using social media.

  • Do the funniest Monty Python-esque walk around your home, and challenge your friends to top it.

  • Do a funky dance in your home, then share it as a video online on IG, Facebook, TikTok, etc.

  • Challenge your friends to who can climb the most stairs.

  • Your dog can help fundraise, too! Take it out for extra walks.

  • Record personal expressions of support and pledge your support online.

Walk in Place:

Hold your walk at home or at your long term care facility. In past year(s), we have had participants across the province gather together off-sites, including Long Term Care facilities and at our Provincial site, Victoria Park Pavillon, in Charlottetown. This year, given the current news surrounding COVID-19, we know we may not be able to hold large group walks. You can contact us for your Walk in a Box Kit to get you started. Please stay tuned for more information and keep June 20 free in your calendar!

The funds you raise through the Walk allow us to deliver vital programs and services for the tens of thousands of Canadians living with dementia who depend on them. And this year, the need is that much greater and your support even more important.

Now more than ever, social connection even from a distance is critically important for people with dementia and their caregivers. Alzheimer Societies across Canada will continue to deliver programs and services to those who depend on them and where necessary, will modify services through online opportunities.

Remember to register today for your local IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, start fundraising, and let’s all WALK ONLINE.
