Following Madeleine's footsteps
My grandmother Madeleine has been living with Alzheimer’s for many years. She has also recovered from the coronavirus at the age of 90! As we’ll be unable to walk for her this year, my family and I had the idea of organizing a small alternative event to help raise a few extra dollars for the Alzheimer Society of Canada. This Sunday, May 31, I will be cycling an itinerary of 173 kilometers, tracing the important places in my grandmother’s life.
The journey will begin in Sainte-Brigitte-des-Saults, where Madeleine was born and was later married to my grandfather Jean-Louis; then on to the village of Sainte-Monique where she was baptized in 1929; followed by the village of Nicolet where she lived for many years; then Baie-du-Febvre, where she raised her ten children; and finally to Résidence Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix in Verdun, where she currently resides. My family will follow me by car to document each step of this journey and what they represent in my grandmother’s life.
If you have not been too affected by the pandemic and can make a donation, I would be grateful for any amount you can give.
